The Aim

This is a non rated competition aimed at glider pilots looking for interesting and innovative flying within a competitive environment. The minimum qualification is a Silver C for P1 but because it is for two seaters, it is a great opportunity for lesser qualified pilots to experience the fun whilst learning.

 

In a lot of rated competitions the club two seater's, ie Capstans, Ka13's etc are often so outclassed they don't bother competing. By simplifying the rules and the scoring we have created a level playing field.

 

If you are looking for some really great cross country flying with the emphasis on fun then this Challenge Cup is a must for you.

 

The Rules

In essence the rules are very simple. Everyday there is a morning brief and prize giving for the previous day's flying.

 

Three new tasks will be briefed. Select one from the options available that you think is most appropriate for your glider and simply fly it and return to the airfield. There are points for kilometres flown as well as for returning over the finish line, and of course glider handicaps are applied. There may also be bonus points along the way - dependant on route and weather.

 

Unlike conventional competitions, after the morning briefing, you choose your own launch time. This cuts down on gaggle flying and the stress of waiting on a grid to launch.

 

That's it, pretty simply really. Oh, just one other thing, you will need an approved logger so that we can download your flight trace to give you an exact score.

 

The Cost

The entrance fee is £140 per glider. A deposit of £40 is required to reserve your place, and the balance of £100 will be required by June. All that is left to pay is the launch fees at the end of the comp.
