My role as the Chief Flying Instructor is to ensure that all
To enjoy this wonderful sport of gliding, safety is a fundamental pre-requisite. Not only is safety taught in the air but also on the ground. There are both flying and ground rules and procedures that are specific to Bidford which are all contained in the “Rules, Operations and Procedures”, manual. All full members and visiting pilots must read and sign this manual to confirm that they have read it, before flying at Bidford. Of equal importance to the enjoyment, is participation in a practical and progressive training policy that is fun. Progressive in the sense that training begins from the very first flight through to going solo, on to the Bronze “ C” badge and the cross country endorsements. But not leaving it there and continuing the training through to the Silver “C” badge and the 100 kilometre Diploma. Fun in the sense that you will find all our instructors really enjoy what they are doing and it’s contagious. At Bidford, members are encouraged to develop their flying skills and qualifications leading to cross country flying, but if you just want to soar locally, that’s fine. Other activities that members are encouraged to participate in are the clubs annual Task Week, a BGA soaring week, the Club/National Ladder and weekday and weekend cross country tasks. As part of the comprehensive training facilities, we also have a Motor Falke which is used for cross country training and recreational flying. We have a team of 12 experienced and enthusiastic instructors, 5 Full Category Rating, 1 Assistant and 6 Basic Instructors. Visit our Who's Who page to see them. We also have other members currently undergoing training for their rating. I would be very happy to speak to any member who is thinking about becoming an instructor, and discuss their particular needs. Gordon Burkert
