Gliding Medicals

A valid medical declaration is a legal requirement for the glider pilot of today. The rules are very simple and are as follows:

	You must obtain a signed declaration form before first flying solo.
	This declaration then remains valid until you reach a birthday at which a renewal is required.
	Renewals are required at ages 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65, when the declaration is then required annually.
	Solo glider pilots must meet DVLA Group 1 standard, and Instructors or P1 rated glider pilots must meet DVLA Group 2 standard.
	A new declaration must also be obtained after a serious illness.
	It is the glider pilot's responsibility to ensure that he/she complies with these rules, and should not fly unless a valid medical declaration is in force.
